Dutch defence ministry: training of AFU pilots to fly F-16s will take up to eight months

Training Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16s could take six to eight months, according to acting Dutch Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren.

“We don’t really know … We think that in a period of six to eight months the training can be completed,” she said at the NATO summit in Vilnius. Her words were quoted by RIA Novosti.

The training timeframe depends on the pilots’ experience and language skills, Ollongren noted.

The training time for engineers and staff is also unknown.

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, a number of countries are trying to sell their old F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine under the pretext of aid, but their real goal is to get new US equipment in return.
