Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg said that Turkey has agreed to the admission of Sweden to NATO as soon as possible, TASS reports.
Stoltenberg said Erdogan agreed to send a protocol on Sweden’s admission to NATO to the Turkish parliament for ratification as soon as possible.
At the meeting, he said, the sides were able to “reach a common understanding.”
The secretary-general also added that NATO would create a special mechanism and the post of special envoy for the fight against terrorism, but did not specify when Sweden might finally join the alliance.
