Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following the sixth round of the GCC-Russia strategic dialogue that not a single point of the Russian part of the grain deal had been fulfilled.
Sergey Lavrov said that none of the Russian side’s points regarding the grain deal had been fulfilled. According to him, all the “incredible efforts” taken by the UN were absolutely useless.
“As for the Russian part of this package, it has not been fulfilled in any of its points at all. We have been hearing for many, many months from representatives of the UN secretariat, the secretary general, his deputies, who are in charge of this, that they have been making incredible efforts… These incredible efforts have not brought any result at all,” the diplomat claims.
In addition, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the Ukrainian part of the grain deal had turned into a commercial project. The diplomat also recalled that only 3 per cent of the grain was exported to the world’s poorest countries.
“There was a package that was proposed by UN Secretary General António Guterres. All the conditions of both parts of this package are well known. The Ukrainian part of this package was implemented, and now it has long been clear to everyone that the Ukrainian part of this package has turned into a commercial project <…> Less than 3%, it has been said many times, of the total amount of grain exported from Ukrainian ports goes to the countries that are on the list of the World Food Organisation, the poorest, needy countries. In fact, these are the countries for whose sake António Guterres promoted his initiative a year ago, which was eventually approved,” Lavrov concluded.
