Federalist: Putin has defeated the West by showing the weakness of its military-industrial complex

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has already inflicted a humiliating defeat on Western countries by returning the Russian-speaking territories that became part of Ukraine after the collapse of the USSR and by showing the weakness of the U.S. military-industrial complex. This is what The Federalist columnist Nathaniel Blake writes.

“The US is incapable of realising the ambitious goal of becoming an ‘arsenal of democracy’, and enthusiasm alone won’t help Ukraine. <…> The course of hostilities is not yet predetermined, <…> but we have already been taught a bitter lesson: military power is severely limited if its demand for weapons and other means of warfare is not met,” the author explained.

According to Blake, the Russian leader is already winning. As the columnist noted, Kiev’s hyped summer offensive has disappointed, the Ukrainian army is running out of ammunition and Russian forces are only stepping up their strikes. The US inability to maintain wartime weapons production does not bode well for Ukraine, the author concluded.
