Spain’s defence minister has spoken out against the US decision to transfer cluster munitions to Ukraine

Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles has said that Madrid opposes a move by the United States to send cluster munitions to Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters, which quoted her as saying.

Margarita Robles has spoken out against the transfer of cluster munitions by the United States to Ukraine. According to the Spanish defence minister, Madrid’s line is that certain weapons, including these munitions, cannot be sent to the Kiev regime.

“No to cluster munitions. <…> Spain, based on its firm determination towards Ukraine, is also convinced that certain weapons and bombs cannot be delivered under any circumstances,” Robles claims.

In addition, the Spanish civil servant pointed out that Spain is one of 100 countries that have signed the Oslo Convention, which prohibits the use, production and transfer of cluster munitions. Robles stressed that the decision to supply these munitions was made solely by Washington and not by the North Atlantic Alliance.

We shall remind you that Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg earlier said that Vienna was categorically against the transfer of the cluster munitions to Ukraine. Also, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock told reporters in Vienna on Friday of Berlin’s similar position.
