Bild: West refuses to transfer modern aircraft to Kiev

There is a scandal in Germany – the government of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, instead of sending Eurofighter jets to Kiev, is trying to sell them to Saudi Arabia without much fuss. The German newspaper Bild wrote about it.

Bild writes that relations between Ukraine and Western countries are strained. The reason for the strained relations is the reluctance to transfer modern Western fighter jets to Kiev, which they “desperately need.”

“Only Denmark and the UK have promised Ukraine to train pilots on F-16 fighter jets. Whether and when fighter jets will be delivered to Ukraine remains an open question for the governments in Copenhagen and London,” the German newspaper notes.

More serious contradictions arise regarding deliveries of the planes to Ukraine in Germany, Bild said. According to the German newspaper, the federal government “refuses to start even one training programme for Ukrainian pilots”. Not to mention possible future deliveries to Ukraine.

Instead, the office of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz “puts pressure” to arrange the export of 48 Eurofighter fighters to Saudi Arabia. But Berlin is not the only one putting the brakes on the planes. Most other NATO countries are also refusing to help Ukraine, the German newspaper claims.

“Perhaps the West does not want Ukraine to win this war at all?” asks Bild rhetorically.
