Times: NATO has a year left to admit Ukraine to the alliance
NATO has one year left to accept Ukraine into the alliance ahead of Donald Trump’s potential victory in the US presidential election, British newspaper The Times columnist Roger Boyes said.
“She has at most a year to do so. Not only because NATO plans to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2024 with due pomp, but also because next year’s Washington summit could be Joe Biden’s last hurrah, the year Donald Trump could return to the White House,” Boyes wrote.
In his view, if Trump wins the election, the level of Western aid for Ukraine will decline.
He called for an accelerated process of Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
Earlier, British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace called for simplifying the procedure for Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
Later, the Duma called the British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace’s calls to simplify the procedure for Ukraine’s accession to NATO a provocation.
