The Vatican does not yet have a plan to help start negotiations on Ukraine – Cardinal Zuppi. He said the Vatican was concentrating “on humanitarian initiatives and protecting the lives of innocent people”.
Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the Pope’s envoy for a settlement in Ukraine, who visited Moscow this week, told the newspaper il Resto del Carlino that the Vatican has no plan of its own to launch negotiations to end the conflict.
“Under the leadership of Pope Francis and with him in the coming days, we will reflect on what we heard [in Moscow]. That is why we do not yet have a plan that can contribute to the start of negotiations. We are very much interested in the humanitarian issue and in protecting the lives of innocent people,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.
“There is no peace plan or mediation, there is a significant desire for the violence to stop,” the hierarch added.
