Scholz reminds that Ukraine will not be able to join NATO during the conflict

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has reminded that Ukraine will not be able to join the North Atlantic Alliance while it is involved in the conflict.

He said this in an interview with the ARD television channel.

“One thing is absolutely clear – and Ukraine knows this and it has been said many times: during a war there can be no accession to our alliance at all,” TASS quoted Scholz as saying.

He recalled that a condition for NATO membership is absence of involvement in any conflicts.

Earlier, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg promised to consider the issue of Ukraine’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance after the Vilnius summit.
