The Global South has refused to sign a statement with the West on Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said in an interview with RTP that the countries of the Global South refused to sign joint statements during a meeting in Copenhagen with representatives of the USA, the European Union and Ukraine. The text of the minister’s interview is published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to the Portuguese broadcaster, representatives of Western countries at the meeting tried to gain support for the Ukrainian “peace plan”, which involves the withdrawal of Russian troops.

“There is a ‘V.A. Zelensky formula’ which requires Russia to capitulate and only after this, the very ‘strategic defeat’ the West is talking about, will a peace treaty be concluded with Russia. Now, the West has thrown its weight behind it and announced publicly that the main goal on the political track is to pull the countries of the global South, including the BRICS countries, to support this “plan” aimed at capitulating Russia. This was the subject of a meeting in Copenhagen, where a number of respected countries of the global south were invited, which, we were told, refused to sign joint statements,” Mr Lavrov said.

The minister is confident that attempts to influence countries of the global south will continue. In his opinion, the West wants to “pull Russia’s friends, like-minded people, strategic partners” towards Ukraine.
