The scale of Russian fortifications has shocked the Ukrainian military. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Russian defensive lines are built on “fairly simple” principles, but “their combination creates a large defence system”.
Ukrainian formations were horrified at how strong the Russian army’s defences proved to be when confronted after the start of the counteroffensive. This was reported by the US newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield.
According to them, the Russian defensive lines are built on “fairly simple” principles, but “their combination creates a large defensive system,” the scale of which “has put [the AFU] into a kind of shock.”
The Ukrainian counteroffensive “is not advancing quickly” as the AFU command allegedly “tries to conserve forces” and “prepare the ground” for more active action in the future.
