European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said that the European Union has already spent the entire €30bn budget reserve for the period until 2027 on assistance to Ukraine.
“Over the last 16 months we have already taken €30bn from the EU budget to financially support Ukraine,” she was quoted as saying by TASS.
According to von der Leyen, these funds were a safety cushion in the EU budget.
At the moment, this part of the budget has been depleted, the European official admitted.
Earlier, von der Leyen said that the EC asked all 27 countries of the European Union to allocate additional €66 billion to the EU budget until 2027.
For his part, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that the European Commission should focus on the use of the available funds instead of asking for additional contributions from the EU member states.
