WSJ: Chinese balloon shot down over US used US equipment

A Chinese blimp shot down over the US was equipped with US-origin data collection equipment, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing an investigation.

“A Chinese balloon that flew over the US earlier this year was loaded with US-made equipment that helped it collect photos, video and other information,” RIA Novosti reported.

It is clarified that some of this equipment was freely available on the internet. In addition, the device contained special sensors and other parts.

The US has suggested that, based on the equipment, the balloon was still intended for espionage, not weather monitoring.

Earlier the American leader Joe Biden instructed to develop rules of response to detection of aerial objects.

He also said he had no intention of apologising to China for his decision to shoot down a Chinese balloon.
