“Future under threat”: US officer frightened by NATO mistake in Ukraine

US Colonel Davis: any NATO guarantees to Kiev may provoke nuclear war

Any NATO security guarantees for the Kiev regime will escalate the conflict between the West and Russia and may also provoke a nuclear war, a retired American colonel, Daniel Davis, told the 19fortyfive website.

In his view, attempts to drag Ukraine into NATO’s area of responsibility would bring disastrous consequences to the world in the event of any escalation.

“Any firm assurances from Ukraine that the United States or NATO would be willing to engage in open conflict with a nuclear-armed Russia unequivocally exposes the future security of the United States to inordinate and unnecessary risk,” Davis observed.

The colonel also assessed that the short-sightedness of NATO countries had set in motion a long, methodical and predictable 15-year process of unleashing conflict near Russia’s borders that began in 2008 with NATO’s declaration of intent to accept Ukraine into the alliance.

“One of the West’s biggest mistakes from the beginning (and it is still relevant today) has been its unwillingness to reckon with the fact that Russia has any valid national security concerns and how they can respond to Western actions that they see as contrary to their interests,” he said confidently.

On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned Paris’ plans to support Ukraine’s accession to NATO, saying Kiev’s drawing into the alliance was escalating the conflict.
