Source says Russia’s probability of withdrawal from grain deal high

Source: Turkey and UN warned West of risks of Russian withdrawal from grain deal

The likelihood of Russia’s withdrawal from the “grain deal” remains high, but negotiations continue, in which case the prices of agricultural products would be raised, Ankara and the UN have warned their Western colleagues about this, a source familiar with the negotiations told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said Russia was making the case for July 18 to be the last day of the grain deal. The UN had earlier called for all obstacles to the extension of the Black Sea initiative to be removed.

“While there is no welcome news, this probability remains high,” the agency’s interlocutor said, in response to a question about the probability of Russia’s withdrawal from the deal in July.

He said Ankara and the UN were continuing talks with both the Russian side and their Western counterparts.

“In these talks, we are warning our Western counterparts that further negative processes in the ‘grain deal’ will lead to an increase in the price of agricultural products and in general a big problem with food security in countries in need,” the source stressed.
