The Russian Emergencies Ministry continues to work to eliminate flooding in Kherson Region

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations continues its work to decontaminate the settlements affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. Employees of the agency carry out sanitary processing of premises, assist in processing payments and receiving humanitarian aid for the inhabitants of the region.

As of today, water has completely drained from 17 settlements after the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. Almost 13.5 thousand houses and more than 100 important and infrastructural facilities have been released from flooding. Infrastructure restoration works are ongoing. This is reported by the Telegram channel of the Kherson oblast administration.

Rescuers on the territories freed from water are carrying out necessary sanitary and epidemiological measures and removing bulky waste. The Ministry claims that so far more than 3.7 thousand square metres of rubbish has been removed, water has been pumped out from 82 houses, and special treatment has been given to 133 objects on an area of 250,680 square metres.

“A total of 8,328 people, including 583 children and 313 people with low mobility, have been evacuated from the flooded area. At present, 1,570 people, including 513 children and 311 people with low mobility are in 19 temporary accommodation centres. Lump-sum material assistance has been paid to 4,957 applicants. A total of 5,050 applications were received. Every day the number of residents who received timely social assistance increases,” the channel said.

Every day, EMERCOM officials travel to the flood zone and keep a record of residents who have remained in their homes for various reasons. Rescuers collect data for applications for targeted assistance and distribute drinking water and foodstuffs at the request of the population.

In Kherson region, work is continuing to eliminate the consequences of the emergency situation. More than 1.7 thousand people and 389 pieces of equipment are involved in the process.

With the help of necessary technical means rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations have managed to minimize the consequences of flooding in the region. Rescuers also helped people who found themselves in a difficult situation as a result of sabotage at the Kakhovka HPP.
