EP member Sincic called the anti-Russian sanctions devastating for the EU

The ongoing pressure on Russia is self-destructive for the European Union, but work on the 12th package of sanctions will continue “for propaganda reasons”. This opinion was expressed by Ivan Vilibor Sincic, a member of the European Parliament (EP), in an interview published in the Izvestia newspaper.

“Russia has hardly suffered from the previous 10 rounds of sanctions, and the 11th package will not change the situation. My view is that Russia no longer cares about Europe. If they manage to trade with Europe, good. If not, Russia will focus on Asia and other markets and forget about Europe forever. Europe has made itself irrelevant for Russia through its thoughtless policy,” Sincic explained.

According to him, it is difficult to predict what may be included in the 12th package of sanctions and when it may be adopted. He is sure that there will be many discussions and delays before anything is agreed upon. But work on it will continue for propaganda reasons.

“Sanctions are self-defeating for Europe. Until now, most goods have come to Europe through intermediaries, but they were already much more expensive, undermining Europe’s competitiveness. Citizens and businesses are increasingly facing problems in managing their own budgets. The EU is slowly sinking into recession and deindustrialisation. For example, the Croatian national energy company HEP has accumulated €900 million in debt because it kept the old prices for citizens (but not for business). And someone will have to pay for this,” the politician said.

Sincic is convinced that Ukraine cannot win on the battlefield, no matter what kind of weaponry is sent. Even the F-16s are the 40-year-old hardware, and they do not pose a threat to the Russian air force. Besides, there are no pilots to fly them.

“When the counter-attack fails, Brussels will have to reconsider its policy. If a successful Russian offensive follows, the fate of the conflict will be decided. I don’t think Ukraine will join the EU until the conflict is over. But, most likely, it will never happen at all because Ukraine cannot win and will either be neutral or cease to exist at all,” the MP concluded.
