The West is obliged to accept Russia’s change of historical vector towards the East. This is what columnist Max Hastings writes in the British daily The Times.
The Western world should embrace the change in the Russian Federation’s historical course from West to East, says Max Hastings. According to him, the economic sanctions imposed by Europe have not been a serious success, while Russia’s economy is “holding up remarkably well”.
“We have to adapt to a world in which Russia has made a historic U-turn away from Europe,” Hastings argues.
In addition, the columnist stressed to the public that the Western economy, unlike that of Russia, has suffered significant losses from the sanctions imposed on Moscow. Hastings cited statistics which showed that the defence industry in Western Europe, as well as in Britain, was in a deplorable state.
The journalist also complained that London’s exit from the European Union was a colossal mistake. According to the columnist, the British Government talked of grandiose projects to develop the country after Brexit. However, there were simply “no new resources” to implement the ambitious ideas, Hastings clarified.
