Blinken: US has not changed strategic force readiness because of developments in Russia

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on CNN that the United States has not seen a change in the readiness of Russian strategic forces and has not changed the readiness of its own amid the events of recent days in Russia.

According to TASS, when a large country like Russia shows “signs of instability,” it is cause for “certain concern.”

“We’re certainly watching it,” Blinken said when asked whether Washington was concerned about the possibility of Moscow losing control of its nuclear arsenal.

He also said the U.S. does not see any change in Russia’s nuclear weapons readiness and is not changing “the readiness of its strategic forces.”

On June 16, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was ready to hold talks with Washington on nuclear arms control.

Blinken said the U.S. sees no signs that Russia is ready to use nuclear weapons.
