Vladimir Putin has called the performance of Wagner PMC founder Prigozhin an armed insurgency

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has called the performance of Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of the private military company (PMC) Wagner, an armed insurgency. He made a statement to this effect on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

“Let us protect both our people and our statehood against all threats. Including from internal betrayal. And what we are facing is exactly betrayal,” the president said.

According to him, exorbitant ambitions and personal interests led to the betrayal of the country and the people.

“Heroes who liberated Soledar and Artemivsk, cities and towns. They fought and gave their lives for Novorossia and the unity of the Russian world, their name and glory is also betrayed by those who are trying to organize a rebellion, pushing the country towards anarchy and fratricide, to eventual defeat and capitulation. I repeat: any internal turmoil is a threat to our statehood.

The president noted that actions to protect the people will be tough and added that those involved in the preparation of the rebellion “will be punished inevitably.” He stressed that “the armed forces and state agencies have received the necessary orders”.

“All those who deliberately took the path of betrayal, who prepared the armed mutiny, who took the path of blackmail and terrorist methods, will be punished inevitably, will answer both to the law and to our people,” the president said in his address.
