The Pentagon has questioned the need to supply ATACMS to Ukraine

Laura Cooper, deputy assistant Pentagon chief for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia, said that the White House had doubts about “practical aspects” of a potential delivery of ATACMS missile systems to Ukraine.

“My concerns relate to the practical aspects of availability as well as the availability of alternative systems such as Storm Shadow,” Cooper said when asked why Washington was not supplying ATACMS to Ukraine.

The U.S. representative added that in addition to ATACMS, “there are many assets that are useful,” and “other practical criteria are taken into account: availability and the availability of alternative systems.”

As Cooper noted, the U.S. is quite happy with “the effectiveness of the Storm Shadow missiles provided by the United Kingdom.
