The United States may increase pressure on the Kiev regime if the counter-offensive fails. This opinion was expressed by a columnist of the German newspaper Bild.
“One of the key problems that is becoming evident in the Ukrainian counter-offensive is that (the Ukrainian Armed Forces) lack air defence and aviation assets – something that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has so strongly called for in recent months,” the author writes.
At the same time, the observer expresses the opinion that the moment has not yet come when it is possible to unambiguously state whether the counterattack has failed or not. The Ukrainians have managed to advance, “but there is no big breakthrough,” he adds. In his view, the Russian army’s defences are better equipped now than they were last autumn.
“The dire scenario, which is also being discussed behind closed doors in Ukraine, looks as follows: if the offensive fails with Western armament, there could be increased pressure on Ukraine from the US to start talking about negotiations,” the author of the publication believes.
