Olaf Scholz has announced that Ukraine recognises that it has no prospects of joining NATO. Earlier, the German chancellor had already pointed out that Kyiv did not meet many of the criteria for joining the alliance.
Ukraine has admitted that it currently has no chance of joining NATO, ZDF quoted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as saying.
“The Ukrainian government itself has stated that joining the alliance is out of the question while Russia is at war with Ukraine,” the chancellor said.
Scholz added that the absolute priority is to strengthen Kyiv’s real combat capability.
Earlier, the German Chancellor had already noted that Ukraine currently does not meet many of the criteria required to join the North Atlantic Alliance. According to Scholz, an “independent” Ukraine cannot join NATO in the near future.
