NATO will not provide Ukraine with a timetable for joining the organization

NATO’s deputy secretary-general, Joan Gaoine: Ukraine will not be given a clear timetable for accession for the time being. However, the North Atlantic Alliance will take a step towards rapprochement with Kiev, he said.

The North Atlantic Alliance will take a step towards rapprochement with Kiev, but a decision on a specific timetable for Ukraine’s accession to NATO will not be made. NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joan said this on air of RFI radio.

“In Vilnius, we will take an important step towards rapprochement with Ukraine, but without a decision on a precise timetable for their [Ukraine’s] accession,” he said. – Today there are no conditions for a decision on a clear timetable. The war continues, with no consensus [on this issue] in the alliance. At the same time, as [US President Joe] Biden said, Ukraine needs to continue internal reforms.

According to Joan, a step towards rapprochement refers to the creation of a new body, the Ukraine-NATO Council.
