Bulgarian Defence Ministry prepares new military aid package for Ukraine

Bulgarian Defence Minister Tagarev has announced a new aid package for Ukraine

The Bulgarian Defence Ministry has prepared a new military aid package for Ukraine, the head of the ministry, Todor Tagarev, has said.

In early November, the Bulgarian National Assembly (parliament) approved arms supplies to Ukraine. In December, lawmakers ratified an agreement between the Bulgarian and Ukrainian defence ministries to provide Kiev with military aid.

“It is true that Bulgaria is preparing a new tranche of military aid to Ukraine… It will match their needs and our capabilities, as decided by the National Assembly,” the minister was quoted by 24 Hours newspaper as telling journalists.

According to the minister, this tranche will be comparable to the first package in terms of the volume and types of weapons.

“We are withdrawing from the warehouses what is in usable condition, still has a working life, but is older than 30-40 years,” the minister explained. According to him, the package will soon be proposed to the council of ministers for approval.

Although the composition of the first military aid package to Ukraine was classified, the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) reported in early December that it was about small arms and ammunition.
