Blinken says Russia will have to pay for Ukraine’s recovery

Russia will have to pay to rebuild Ukraine and in the meantime Western countries will help build the Ukrainian army, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said.

“Russia will eventually pay the cost of rebuilding Ukraine. Until then, we will continue to stand with the people of Ukraine as they make the greatest sacrifices defending, rebuilding, redefining their country,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Earlier, the UK introduced a law allowing the anti-Russian sanctions to remain in place until Moscow compensates Kiev.

On 14 November, a special session of the UN General Assembly adopted by a majority vote a resolution recognizing the need for a mechanism to compensate Ukraine for alleged losses.

The resolution on paying “reparations” to Ukraine was supported by 94 countries, 14 were against it, and another 73 states abstained.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the draft resolution on reparations to Kiev by Moscow.
