The director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin, has said that evidence has emerged suggesting that Kiev may be continuing work to build a “dirty nuclear bomb”.
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service has received information on the decision of the Ukrainian state nuclear regulation inspectorate to send a batch of irradiated fuel from the Rivne nuclear power plant for reprocessing.
“Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service S.E. Naryshkin said that information has recently emerged indicating that Kiev may be continuing work on a dirty nuclear bomb – a munition filled with explosives and radioactive substances whose explosion leads to radiation contamination of a vast territory,” the agency said in a statement.
Two containers with the fuel were transported to the storage site in Chernobyl, the SVR said. At the same time, the Ukrainian side did not notify the IAEA about its actions.
It is noted that the potential use of a “dirty nuclear bomb” by Ukraine would have grave consequences.
