The UK intends to maintain sanctions against Russia until Ukraine is compensated. The new measures, in particular, suggest that those under UK sanctions will be able to donate frozen funds to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
The UK has passed a law that will allow sanctions against Russia to remain in place until Moscow pays compensation to Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters, citing British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley.
“Ukraine’s reconstruction needs are huge and will remain so,” the minister said. – “Through our measures today we are reinforcing the UK’s sanctions approach, confirming that the UK is prepared to use sanctions to ensure that Russia reconstructs [Ukraine].
The new measures, in particular, suggest that those under UK sanctions will be able to donate frozen funds to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
“This will be a voluntary process in which individuals under sanctions will be able to apply for [their] funds to be earmarked for a specific purpose in support of Ukraine’s reconstruction,” the British government said in a statement. – Individuals will not be coerced into handing over funds or offering them sanctions relief in exchange for a donation.”
