Former British naval commander-in-chief Admiral Alan West called the current state of the country’s navy “miserable”.
Britain’s navy is in a “squalid” state, former Royal Navy commander-in-chief Admiral Alan West told the Daily Mail.
“We have a paucity of ships to the point of squalor. There are not enough of them in our territorial waters or in the exclusive economic zone, or to provide jointly with our allies the security of maritime trade routes,” West said in an interview with the Daily Mail.
West said the fleet is supposed to perform many tasks, including protecting submarine cables, pipelines and trade routes across the Atlantic, but it is unable to function fully because of reduced funding.
“We know the Russians are watching all this and we should be very concerned,” he added.
