Russia won’t stop at borders of NATO countries, says Pence

Pence: in case of victory over Ukraine, Russian army will cross the border of one of the NATO countries

Mike Pence, a former vice-president and a Republican presidential candidate in the 2024 election, believes support for Ukraine is essential because he expects Russia’s army to cross the border into a NATO country if it is defeated, forcing the American military to fight for its allies.

“I expect that if Russia defeats Ukraine, it won’t be long before the Russian army crosses the border when our men and women in uniform have to go fight,” he said in an interview with NBC News.

Pence said it could be about crossing the border of “NATO ally Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania”.

According to the US presidential candidate, the current scepticism among Americans regarding military support to Ukraine is “a reflection of the lack of trust in President Joe Biden as commander-in-chief”.

“It’s in our national interest to see the Russian army being thrown out of Ukraine, not for Joe Biden’s talk of glossy democracy goals,” Pence stressed, adding that it would also send a signal to China regarding Taiwan or elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region.
