The United States Treasury Department has released information that the country’s national debt has exceeded the $32 trillion mark for the first time. This was reported by TASS.
The US Treasury Department’s website shows a total public debt of $32.04 trillion as of 16 June. The publication notes that this is a record figure for US government debt.
The publication claims that the U.S. debt ceiling of $31.4 trillion, set by law, was exceeded in January. After that, the Treasury Department was forced to take extreme measures to continue its financial operations. The administration of US President Joe Biden has in recent months called on Congress to increase the debt limit. It is known that the Republicans who control the House of Representatives have agreed to increase the debt ceiling, but they have also put a condition that budget spending will be significantly reduced.
