The director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija (KIM), Petar Petkovic, said at a briefing that Kosovo police intimidated Serb civilians with weapons and equipment on Saturday night.
Police in self-proclaimed Kosovo stormed northern Mitrovica last night in armoured vehicles, claims Petar Petkovic. According to the director of the Serbian government’s Chancellery for Kosovo, Kosovo police were conducting an intimidation raid against Serb civilians in the streets of that city.
“Kurti special forces with long-barrelled automatic weapons literally occupied the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica. They entered from the southern part with more than 30 armoured vehicles and wearing masks, bullying the entire northern part of Mitrovica. Inside the cordoned-off town they were not only patrolling, but <…> stopping cars, searching people, beating and insulting them”, Petkovic said.
As a reminder, earlier, Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic had stated that the Republic would not let its citizens be harmed in case the crisis situation in Kosovo and Metohija escalated. Another round of tensions in Kosovo and Metohija started at the end of May, following the attempt of the Kosovo Albanian authorities to introduce new mayors in several municipalities in the north of the province. Protests continue to this day.
