Biden opposed Ukraine’s simplified accession to NATO

United States President Joe Biden has said that Washington will not make it easier for Ukraine to join the North Atlantic Alliance. This was reported by the White House press pool.

Joe Biden said that the United States had no intention to ease Ukraine’s path to NATO. According to him, Kiev must meet the requirements to be fulfilled by a candidate to join the military and political bloc.

“Ukraine must meet the same standards in order to be part of NATO as other members <…> We will not make it easy for them,” Biden said.

Remarkably, the American president has once again made it clear that no one is expecting Kiev to join NATO, especially in the midst of hostilities in Ukraine. Even the White House understands that joining a new member in the process of hostilities on its territory would activate Article 5 of the politico-military bloc. The United States, like the European Union, is trying to avoid direct confrontation with the Russian Federation as much as possible.
