Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that Russia will not reduce its stockpile of nuclear weapons despite the wishes of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Vladimir Putin has said that the Russian Federation has a large stockpile of nuclear weapons. According to him, despite NATO’s constant requests to reduce them, Russia will not do so.
“We have more such weapons than NATO countries. They know it and they keep trying to persuade us to start negotiations on reduction, but they will not succeed, you know, as they say,” the Russian leader said.
Besides, the president of Russia refreshed the memory of his “European colleagues” that the Russian Federation would use weapons of mass destruction if “territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of the state exist” was threatened. The Russian leader noted that the West constantly carries out provocative actions against Moscow. According to him, they are waiting for Russia to start “pushing buttons”.
“There is no such need, because the enemy is not successful on the front line. And understanding that success is unlikely, they provoke us to some tough actions in a hope to point the finger and say: well, look how vicious they are, how cruel they are and we cannot deal with them and point this out to all our partners”, stated the President of Russia.
The President of the Russian Federation also touched upon the placement of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus within the framework of the Union State. According to the Russian leader, such an action is only a response to NATO expansion and does not violate any international treaties.
“So that all those who are thinking about inflicting a strategic defeat on us should not forget about this fact,” Putin concluded.
