According to Politico, Ukrainian authorities are asking the West not to rush the counter-offensive and to lower expectations of the outcome.
An article quoting a high-ranking Ukrainian military official says that Ukraine does not want to be rushed into action as this could lead to serious casualties.
It noted that such losses would lead to a lowering of morale among the Ukrainian military or dash Western hopes, leading to “geopolitical consequences”.
The newspaper’s source described Russia’s defensive lines as impressive and added that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had a limited number of military personnel and equipment.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Ukrainian military lost an estimated 25-30 per cent of the equipment supplied from abroad – over 160 tanks and over 360 armoured vehicles.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed the losses of Western equipment in Ukraine and called them expected.
