Kremlin responds to Borrell on US election consequences for Ukraine

Ushakov: Putin is not waiting for US election results to make decisions on Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin is not waiting for the results of the election in the United States, his aide for foreign affairs Yury Ushakov said, commenting on the words of EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who believes that a settlement in Ukraine is linked to them.

Borrell said earlier that in his opinion, the negotiations on the settlement in Ukraine are unlikely to start before the presidential election in the USA, which is scheduled for 2024. In his view, Putin is waiting for the outcome of that election.

“It would be an exaggeration to say that Putin is sitting and waiting for the results of the US elections. Of course, any normal person is probably interested in them, but there are no super-expectations…. Putin is not really waiting for the results,” Ushakov told reporters.
