West disappointed by AFU failures and wants to justify its aid to Ukraine – Global Times

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ (AFU) counterattack has failed to meet the expectations of the collective West, which is concerned about the Ukrainian army’s failures on the battlefield. The Chinese newspaper Global Times has reported this, citing experts.

Chinese experts interviewed by the publication note that the counterattack announced by Ukraine has started amid growing anxiety among Western countries, especially in the United States, as the Ukrainian army is showing few signs of victory on the battlefield.

Shen Yi, a professor at Fudan University’s School of International Relations and Public Affairs, told the publication that after 15 months of conflict in Ukraine, the United States and its allies in Europe want the Kiev regime to show success to justify the aid it has received.

According to Qian Feng, head of the research department of the National Strategy Institute at Tsinghua University, modern weapons sent by the West to Ukraine “will not play a significant role to change the situation” because the Armed Forces “do not control the airspace and their air defence of ground troops lacks sufficient capacity”. He also praised the Russian side for collecting accurate information necessary for successful combat operations. According to Qian Feng, the current situation shows no signs that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict will end in the near future.

At the same time, the experts agreed that the West needs to stop the escalation of the conflict. They supported China’s plan for the peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, the main condition for which is a cease-fire.
