US and European officials admit that dislodging Russian forces from their positions as a result of the AFU’s attempts to advance in the SMO zone is unlikely, The New York Times reports.
“Privately, U.S. and European officials acknowledge that pushing all Russian troops off occupied Ukrainian soil is unlikely,” the U.S. newspaper said in an article.
The journalists write that the definition of “success” of Ukraine’s offensive is fluid.
“It remains unclear what exactly the US, Europe and Ukraine consider a ‘successful’ counteroffensive,” the authors note.
Furthermore, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski does not disclose the goals of the AFU’s combat operations, although he often demands only that “Russian troops leave Ukraine”.
Earlier, Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto admitted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive raised questions.
