Italy’s foreign minister says Ukraine’s membership of NATO ill be decided at the end of the conflict

Ukraine’s NATO membership will be decided after the conflct is over, Italian Foreign Minister Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani has said in an interview with La Repubblica.

“But in the meantime, at the NATO summit in Vilnius, we will determine the path of Ukraine’s accession… Meanwhile, we are moving towards apermanent NATO-Ukraine council. This is an important step as it involves Kiev in international decisions,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Earlier, British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said that Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance would not happen any time soon.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the country’s hopes to join NATO were getting farther and farther away.

NATO deputy secretary-general Mircea Joan said that there was currently no consensus among NATO member states on Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
