Former US State Department official Wright says the prospect of NATO expansion will weaken the alliance

The prospect of NATO enlargement will weaken the alliance rather than strengthen it, retired army (ground forces) colonel and former State Department official Ann Wright has told il Fatto Quotidiano.

“I believe it will not strengthen NATO, but rather weaken it. It is now clear that it is not a defensive alliance, but an offensive one… one of its main tasks is to support certain conflicts,” TASS quoted her as saying.

Wright called NATO a very dangerous organization, first of all, due to the fact that it is led by the United States.

The United States is leading it. “I want to say to all NATO countries: <…> think better of yourselves, is it worth getting into trouble to support stupid NATO wars?” – she concluded.

Earlier, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili cited Kiev’s desire to join the North Atlantic Alliance as the reason for the conflict in Ukraine.

US presidential candidate and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy also said that NATO expansion had led to the conflict in Ukraine.

Former CIA analyst Raymond McGovern said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the West as early as 2008 about the detrimental consequences of Ukraine’s course to NATO, but the USA did not listen.
