The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) are suffering significant losses of personnel and military equipment in battles with Russian soldiers. Journalists Andrew Kramer and Eric Schmitt said this in an article in The New York Times, citing statements by US officials.
“Ukrainian troops, as expected, suffered losses of personnel and equipment at the beginning of combat operations [during their counteroffensive],” the publication said.
According to the authors of the article, the Russian troops are expected to break through. The journalists noted that the Russian forces were able to achieve success in battles with the Ukrainian Armed Forces because they built defensive structures with trenches, minefields and other obstacles in time.
Attempts to break through the Russian defence, the observers write, resulted in serious losses for the Ukrainian units. Often the Ukrainian Armed Forces were forced to retreat, throwing foreign vehicles, including German-made Leopard tanks, onto the battlefield.
