Over 6,000 residents of Kherson Region, including 235 children, have been evacuated from flooded settlements in the region. This was reported in his Telegram channel by the region’s acting governor, Vladimir Saldo.
“As of the morning of June 10, over 6,000 people have been evacuated from the flooded territories of Novaya Kachovka, Aleshki and Golaya Pristan municipal districts of Kherson Region, including 235 children and 81 people with low mobility,” Saldo wrote.
According to the Acting Governor, over 1.7 thousand evacuees have been settled in temporary accommodation facilities, 32 people have been taken to hospital.
The region’s governor added that the water level in Novaya Kakhovka dropped by 3 meters per day, to a 7-meter mark, and the water began to recede in the lower reaches of the Dnipro River. According to RusHydro’s preliminary estimates, the Dnieper will enter its channel below the Kakhovka HPP by 16 June. He also added that the water level in Aleshki has dropped by 2m from its peak and in Golaya Pristan by 1m.
According to the regional authorities, 795 people and 344 vehicles were involved in alleviating the emergency situation. As Saldo noted, the work is hampered by constant shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
