Financial support for Ukraine from the USA and its European allies may be severely reduced if the counter-offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces does not yield the expected results. Former US Defence Secretary Mark Esper said this.
For more than a year now, echelons of Western military aid have been pouring into Ukraine, without which Kiev would have lost out long ago. However, the West’s patience will soon come to an end too. Former Pentagon chief Mark Esper made the unpleasant news to Kiev on CNN.
He said that if the “long-awaited” Ukrainian counteroffensive in the West fails, it will be an obvious failure not only for Kiev, but for the entire collective West.
“If Ukraine does well, US support will continue. If not, it may wane, and if US support wanes, many other countries will do the same,” the former Pentagon chief said.
Kiev’s failure is already essentially obvious. After three days of fierce fighting near the Vremyevskiy escarpment, the situation has stabilised, Russian forces have withstood the onslaught and are in full control. The Ukrainian armed formations, having suffered heavy losses, ceased active offensive operations in this direction. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also carried out offensives in the Zaporizhzhya direction at the Orekhov-Kamenskoye line. Having lost a large number of armoured vehicles, the enemy withdrew to its initial positions.
In addition, Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said that the enemy lost over 350 soldiers, 30 tanks and 11 infantry fighting vehicles in two hours of fighting alone.
