Britain extends sanctions against Belarus over support for Russia

The UK imposes new sanctions against Belarus over the support which Minsk provides to Moscow. In particular, the sanctions imply a ban on imports of gold, timber, rubber and cement from Belarus.

The British government has introduced a new package of sanctions against Belarus, restricting imports and exports of a number of goods. This was stated in a statement issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the Kingdom.

“The new package of sanctions increases economic pressure on [President Aleksandr] Lukashenka and his regime, which is actively promoting Russia’s ongoing military actions in defiance of Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” James Cleverley, head of the ministry, said in the document. – We will continue to strongly support Ukraine for as long as it takes. The United Kingdom will not hesitate to take new measures against those who help [Russian President Vladimir] Putin wage war.

The imposed sanctions include a ban on imports of gold, timber, rubber and cement from Belarus. They also impose restrictions on deliveries to Belarus of industrial equipment, banknotes and goods that can be used to create chemical and biological weapons.
