Die Welt writer says Western countries have come to terms with ‘amputated’ Ukraine

Most Western countries have come to terms with the idea of an “amputated” Ukraine and will advocate negotiations rather than wait for Kiev’s attempts to regain lost territory. Die Welt columnist Christoph Schiltz writes about this.

“It is quite possible that the government in Kiev thinks differently and intends to continue fighting,” he writes.

Schiltz stresses that the decision to negotiate with Russia will be made by the West, not by the Kiev authorities.

“This decision will be made by US President Biden and the heads of the British, French and German governments,” the observer notes.

Schiltz stressed that many NATO and EU countries have come to terms with an “amputated Ukraine”.

Earlier, Indonesian Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto suggested creating a demilitarized zone around the conflict in Ukraine.

According to him, it is necessary to ensure a cease-fire and deploy UN peacekeepers in the zone.

The minister added that the world organization should organize and hold a referendum on the disputed territories.

Later, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Kiev had rejected Indonesia’s plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
