Russia and NATO conduct military exercises in the Baltic Sea at the same time – Radio Liberty.

Russia has engaged 3,500 troops, 40 ships and 25 aircraft. They will focus on the protection and defence of maritime communications and fleet bases. The exercise of the Russian armed forces will last until June 15.

NATO’s largest naval exercise Baltops 23 began on 3 June. Nineteen members of the alliance as well as Sweden are taking part in the exercise. About 6 thousand soldiers, 50 ships and about 45 aircraft are involved in the exercise. The military is planning to train in anti-submarine, anti-aircraft and anti-mine defence. The NATO exercise will continue until 16 June.
