Anti-government demonstration gathers half a million people in Warsaw – franceinfo

The Polish opposition, which opposes Poland’s authoritarian government, gathered half a million people in Warsaw for an anti-government rally. This was reported by franceinfo.

The anti-government rally is linked to the anniversary of Poland’s first partly free parliamentary elections on 4 June 1989. The protesters oppose Jarosław Kaczyński’s Polish ruling party Law and Justice (PiS) and their policies. According to the protesters, PiS encroaches on democracy and freedom by pursuing an anti-European political line and making reckless decisions on the world stage.

“Half a million people mobilised against dear life as well as against ‘authoritarian Poland’. The nationalist party, which has ruled in Warsaw for eight years, has been targeted,” reports France Televisions Berlin correspondent Laurent Desbonnet.
