Hundreds of protesters against the anti-terrorism law have taken to the streets of the Swedish capital Stockholm. This was reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Hundreds of protesters who are close supporters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), banned in Turkey and the EU, have taken to the streets of Stockholm. They oppose an anti-terrorism law designed to normalise relations with Turkey over Sweden’s accession to NATO.
The legal document envisages a similar ban on close elements of the PKK in Sweden. Stockholm is adopting the law to seek approval from Turkey to join NATO.
“Hundreds of people protested in Stockholm on Sunday against the new anti-terrorism law passed in response to Turkey’s opposition to Sweden’s accession to NATO,” the agency reported.
Close supporters of the PKK waved posters of the banned Turkish organisation and banners that read “No to NATO”. The procession was titled “No NATO, no laws of (Turkish President Recep Tayyip) Erdogan in Sweden”.
