The cause of the train collision in India was a change in the electronic interlocking system

A change in the electronic interlocking system was the cause of a train collision in India that killed several hundred people, authorities said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the train was given a signal to enter the main line, but the signal was later cancelled. The train instead entered another line, known as the loop line, and collided with a parked goods train.

Latest reports put the death toll from the train collision at over 300, with around 1,000 injured.
