German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius thought two years ago that it was impossible to supply arms to a conflict zone.
“If someone had told me two years ago that Germany would supply heavy weapons, ammunition and other things to a war-torn region, I would not have believed it. I would have said it was impossible,” he said, speaking at the ongoing Shangri-La Dialogue international security forum in Singapore.
Pistorius explained that Germany’s arms deliveries to Ukraine are a “real paradigm shift” that requires the German government to realign its defence policy, including in the area of arms export controls.
